On 5 September, the Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia opens Jass Kaselaan’s solo exhibition Shepherd. Grave. Human with Wings, an existential reflection on life, death and responsibility. With sensitivity, totality and humanity so characteristic to Kaselaan, he has created new sculpture and drawing series for the exhibition that address themes and motifs which in a broader social context seem to be considered with anxiety and erratic uncertainty. Encompassing all three floors of the museum, with consistency and calm, Kaselaan explores the difficulties that sometimes can break a person. Or give them wings.
In 2014, Jass Kaselaan won the Köler Prize and this is the first time since then he returns to the Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia. Exhibition Shepherd. Grave. Human with Wings is open from Wednesday to Sunday, 12.00–19.00, until 2 November 2025.
In his work, Kaselaan focuses on large-scale sculpture, sound and spatial installations. His installations strive for totality and are thought through to the smallest detail, carefully considering both the theme and the exhibition space. His works carry an existential spirit, exploring the intersections of religion, science and technological progress. Jass Kaselaan has created several artworks for public spaces, devised within the framework of the Commissioning of Artworks Act.
